Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to participate in summer athletics if I want to make a team?
It is not required that athletes participate in these activities or any others in order to make a team the following school year. That being said, we highly recommend athletes take these opportunities to participate in the summer so they stay in shape, continue to improve, and become more familiar with teammates and coaches.
Who do I ask about what to bring or wear?
Check in with the head coach, whose email address is listed under each sport.
How can I be sure I get the most updated summer schedule information for each sport?
Please be sure to register for the regular season using this online link: Registration Link to be sure you receive updated information about summer offerings. You do not need to pay for the season in order to complete registration and it doesn’t require you to participate during the school year.
What is Dead Week or Moratorium Week?
This is an OSAA rule prohibiting any high school athletics or activities during one week in the summer. This summer it lands on July 26-August 1.
When are fall tryouts? Deadlines to register for fall?
The fall season begins on August 17. Tryouts and first practices will begin that day. Athletes need to be registered no later than August 10 if they want to be cleared for the first day. They have until August 31 to register if they’d like to join a no-cut sport. Many teams will fill up before then.
If I sign up for a sport in the summer, am I automatically registered for that sport during the school year?
No, please also select that sport during the regular season/school year when you register.
What is the clearance process?
Please register for the regular season using this online link: Registration Link and have a valid physical on file.
Where/when can I get a physical?
Providence is offering a free physical for all school-aged athletes 6th - 12th grade on Tuesday, June 5th from 5:30 - 8:30pm at Benson Tech Highschool. The address for Benson Tech Highschool is 546 NE 12th Ave Portland, Oregon 97232.
If you can't make it to your doctor, please call 503-988-3909 to make a NO COST appointment at the Student Health Center located at Roosevelt High School. Please note, Roosevelt's Health Center will only be open two days during the summer, August 12th and 13th. Call now to schedule an appointment.
